Meyhane is back after some travels to Turkey and Greece! Let’s gather around a warm table, share food, wine, and with some beautiful old songs.
What is Meyhane?
Thanks to Persian: May (wine) + Hane (house) — a house of wine. In Istanbul, it has been a place of poetry, laughter, long conversations and shared plates for a thousand year. We are a group of chefs and artists from Istanbul, exploring the food and drink traditions of ancient lands, and Copenhagen has become our new stage to cook, remember, and reimagine.
For this session, we want to honour the shared table culture of two lands once united (still united): Greece and Turkey. On our recent trips to Thessaloniki and Lesvos, we felt something familiar and deeply emotional. We’ve brought that emotion back with us — and now we are cooking with it. Expect a table full of vibrant meze, most of them fresh and vegetable-based. Expect curious wines from Anatolia, Thrace, and Greece. And of course, our dearest white companion: Raki.
And we saved the greatest news for last! Karayagini is a Copenhagen-based Rebetiko trio — Maria Papadimitraki, Thanos Kandylas and Christian Sylvest — and we are incredibly lucky that they will join the night to eat, drink, and play music with us.
Our dear friend, hidden hero behind every event we organize Ömer Altan, carrying his tambur on his back like Sisyphus in Copenhagen will also be playing some beautiful Istanbul sounds. We have only 55 seats. Candles, good-old music, friends, laughter and tears, tastes. What else is there!
The menu is on the way — see you soon!
Big hugs to Esra for creating this sweet analogue collage for us!
